Azu Tiwaline started producing music in France at the end of the 1990s. At first she made hard techno, then after a few years decided she wanted to experiment with more broken beat and bass music styles. “I have been living in the desert of southern Tunisia for a little over three years now,” she says. “It is from there that this new identity ‘Azu Tiwaline’ was born, with a softer, organic sound, punctuated by increasingly present silences. It’s a new name for a new spirit — the one of a producer willing to find a new sound in her origins, which take root in the Sahara and El Djerid region in the south of Tunisia. A sound from the desert, drawing on Berberian and Saharan trance music that connects human beings with nature.”
She recently started getting interested in cryptocurrency, although she admits “it's still a vague and complex concept for me. In principle, it could reduce the many intermediaries between the artist and the listener, with better transparency for the financial flows generated — and in a completely secure manner. When we see the current remuneration of artists via streaming platforms, it is necessarily an option that seems interesting and much fairer… If the blockchain concept can get the streaming platforms to react by encouraging them to adopt fairer policies, then so much the better.”
